I am a year old new silkie mom. I had 3 hens and one past after about 6 months. Now I have two and one is pecking at the other one at feeding time and when I put them in my big plastic coop at night. It’s so bad the pecked one is staying inside the coop a lot. I just cleaned the coop and realized there was a pretty bad mite infestation going on so today I went buckwild cleaning that sucker out and am researching the best mite treatments. I sprayed the coop with permethrin and put DE under the new straw bedding and sprinkled buff cluck herbs on straw. I carefully sprayed each bird with the permethrin but not really effectively. They are in a large fenced area and are together under a tree and free ranging in a beautiful pen I built for them here on the north shore of Maui Hawaii. We get a lot of rain here and they hang under the tree when that happens. I have read I should separate them but I don’t really have another place for that outside. Would it be a good idea to build a temporary caged enclosure for the bully away from the other pen for a while? If so would an upside down plastic container be sufficient for at night with an opening on the end? Getting the permethrin dust tomorrow..aloha Nancy🤓
