After some quick research I'm quite sure that one of my chickens has both bumblefoot and scaly leg mites. I've learned of treatment options, but I'm unsure of what order to treat the issues in. Her bumblefoot abscesses will likely need home surgery, so should I wait to start any oil soaking for the mites until after treating the bumblefoot?

We've been treating the mites for about a week now, and decided that today we were going to have a go at the abscesses. I was worried it was going to hurt her a lot and lead to infection despite all the anti-infection measures we took. What we found was not a pus or blood filled abscess with kernel deep within, but nearly solid clumps of dirt. Her feet are incredibly large and wrinkled, and we think at some point small rocks and dirt must have gotten under her foot and started accumulating. On one foot, the clump needed up growing through her skin and out the other side creating a hole in her foot. There was no bleeding at all! We soaked, removed the clumps, and cleaned her feet and wrapped them. She is still walking fine. I am so glad this procedure didn't end up being painful and just uncomfortable for her. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this occurring? Here's a picture of her foot after removing one of the clumps. She is doing very well and is glad for it be over!

Glad you resolved this okay. You may have noticed her scales separating and lifting. It's a sign of possible scaly mites. Treat by soaking in Epsom salts and the lather on Vaseline or castor oil.
