I noticed one of my peahens with a pretty large bump over her left eye. Would anyone know if this is an illness or an accidental bump?

Here's a few pictures (note: she's normally skittish and she backed into a corner because I was approaching her with a camera)

It's really hard to tell from the photos, but whenever anyone says anything about lumps near, over, under or on eyes I think sinusitis. From what I can see it doesn't look very big at this point, often times the eyeball is no longer visible because the lump has gotten so large. If it is sinusitis it amounts to a clogged sinus cavity, if it is not treated it will harden and need to be cut out. The general advice for treating sinusitis is to start with Tylan and if that does not clear it up you can try baytril. You can find both in various forms, doses, and routes, so once you get some, look on Hopkins alternative livestock's website under peafowl medications and you will find instructions for using the type you have gotten. They come in powders, liquids, tablets etc... and different mg. so I cannot tell you how much to use until you purchase some and we know what you have on hand. If it is just a bruise, it should go down in a few days, but I would still get her on some tylan so it doesn't harden if it is a clogged sinus.

I went to get Tylan from my nearby feed place recently. They didn't have Tylan or Baytril, but they told me a medication called Duramycin would work just as well. Should I medicate my bird with this?

If she still has this lump after 3 days, it is most likely not a bee sting or a bruise and I am thinking clogged sinus/sinus infection.
Duramycin is a broad spectrum antibiotic and it may help. Usually though you need the tylan or baytril which are both very effective at treating sinusitis. Go ahead and start using the duramycin it won't hurt. I don't know why but nobody seems to be able to find meds right now, seems like the feed stores and TSC's are all sold out. Try to find them online, I just did a quick search and ebay has both on right now. Tylan 50 and 100 are on there but not 200. Baytril is to be used a last resort only and is frowned upon in this country, so if you absolutely must use it try looking for enrofloxacyn that is it's scientific name. You won't get the best price on ebay, but when you cannot find it elsewhere you don't have much choice.
