I have three polish bantams, they’ve all gotten a burn on their heads from the heat plate overnight despite it being raised according to their growth, I’ve put it up again since the burns showed up 3 days ago. I cleaned them daily with saline & I am spraying their heads with anti-peck spray daily, initially it was just a little black dot burn, but obviously it’s getting worse. None of my local farm shops have any blue or purple stuff, just the same anti-peck spray that tastes bad to them but they keep pecking. I’m a bit out of my depth with this & have no way of separating them heat wise. Any advice is greatly appreciated. They’re two weeks old & otherwise they’re acting completely normal.

I have never seen a heat plate hot enough to burn skin. I would use it, and get another heat source. Are you sure they are only 2 weeks old? Gentian violet from a pharmacy or Amazon is the blue ingredient in BluKote, and can be dabbed on the spots, or get some silvadene burn cream from your vet and apply twice a day. If they are getting pecked, they may need to be separated with a little screen to protect them.

It’s not actually very hot to touch, it’s the same temp it was for other chicks and this never happened. Yes, I hatched them myself and they all hatched on the 4th, so 2 weeks and 1 day for me here in Ireland. Thanks so much! I’ll check my pharmacy, if not I’ll get from Amazon.
