Hey Hannah,
I just saw your post and I'm looking for a home for a young, cute rooster! I rescued him and a young hen from a bad situation when they were about 4 weeks old, with the intentions of keeping them, but now that he's turned into a rooster, I sadly have to find a new home for him. My city (Oakland, CA) doesn't allow roosters...

Anyway, they are approximately 12 weeks old right now. They are sweet, healthy and have really bonded together. The hen is an Americana, so she’ll lay blue eggs. I think the rooster is a mix. I think they would prefer to be re-homed together, but I can gladly keep the hen and just re-home the rooster, if that's better for you.

Looking for a home with some free-range space for them, where they won’t be raised for meat.
Anyway, I'm about 6hrs away, and willing to make the journey to find them a good home.
Let me know if you'd be interested in taking the rooster, or both?

thanks,
Catherine

If you are a hatchery, do you not worry about biosecurity when bringing in unknown birds?
Good point that I will clarify! I have two separate main flocks, one for breeding and one that lives with me around the yard that free ranges and comes and goes as they wish. In this post, I am inquiring about chickens for my house yard flock because I like to take in animals that people can’t care for as they would like for whatever reason since I have a soft spot for animals, and I’d also like another roo to keep nighttime predators out of my yard so they don’t keep eating my tomatoes. :) The breeding flocks and my personal “pet” flocks don’t intermingle. :) I appreciate you being so on it with your questions! It’s important to make sure breeders are being safe and we need more people like you to make sure everyone is doing the right things! I hope I’ve answered your question but if you have any follow up questions don’t hesitate to ask!

Well, that's a new one on me. I learn something new everyday though.
I've never had a Rooster keep nighttime predators out of the yard, they do however seem to attract them:)

Thanks for the clarification on your practices.

Good luck!

Yes my previous large “barnyard” house rooster always killed any mice that scurried by and scared off raccoons well, so when he passed I realized how much he had helped when he was there. :) so now I like having some roos around the house yard to pasture roam.

Hi! I’m not sure how old your post is but I ordered six fertile silkie eggs to hatch. Unfortunately I can only keep two. I want my kids to have this great experience so I am looking for someone that I can take them to in case one is a rooster or they all hatch. I live in the Los Angeles area. Are you still taking chickens and what part of Los Angeles do you live? Kate

Hi,
I live in anahiem California and I am looking to rehome a rooster who is 5 months old. I want home to be able to roam free and not be limited to a small patio . I would not mind driving to you as long as I know he’s going to a good home with other hens too.

Hello, I have two 7 month old silkie roosters in need of a new home. I'm located in Anaheim, CA and can drive to you if you're able to rehome. They're gorgeous boys and I would like to keep them but they are starting to bug the neighbors.
