I just got chicks the other day and one of the pullets has signs of pasty butt. I cleaned her up and saw that you should give them yogurt and hard boiled egg yolks. I gave them some hard boiled egg yolk and i got some Greek yogurt but im not sure if they can digest that well. Is there any thing else i can do to get rid of her pasty butt, Thanks for all your help.

Greek yogurt *IS* regular yogurt ...your regular yogurt is white stuff with corn syrup and other fillers. Also be careful of Big company brands, they put odd fillers in their "greek" yogurt as well. So far Chobani is the only big name yogurt that is "real" yogurt (IMO)

From what I understand though, plain yogurt of either kind is fine.

Regular yogurt is strained twice and greek is strained three times. This makes it thicker and creamier texture wise. Greek tends to have more protien, less carbs and less calcium. I don't see why chicks couldn't have greek instead of regular yogurt.

Thank you for your input. Is there anything else you know of that i could give them to keep away the pasty butt?

I have heard that yogurt (for the probiotics) and hard boiled egg are good. I have also heard that the reason chicks being raised by hens do not get pasty butt is because they peck at the mama hens poop. Sounds gross but I guess they get "good" bugs from it that keep their digestive tract working right. You need to carefully clean the poor things butt. I would do it over a sink using cotton balls and slightly warm running water. Just keep soaking the cotton balls with the water and then gently wiping the bottom. Essentially you are "melting" the hard poop until it falls/slides away. You have to be very careful not to rub too hard or to try to pick it away. It can do severe damage to them if you do. It takes a lot of patience if it is particularly hard, but it will work eventually. Keep checking daily and cleaning as necessary. I think the yogurt will make a difference but it may take a few days. Good luck! I'm sure all will be well in a few days!

Thanks so much. There starting to look better i gave them some hard boiled egg yolk yesturday and i was wondering how often and how much i should give them a day. I have 4 chicks.

I'm not sure if this is too often, but I'm giving mine the yogurt/boiled yolk/crumble/water mixture twice a day. They really enjoy it and I'm happy with the way their poops look and they are growing well and seem fine with it. I usually leave it in a couple of hours, then remove it. They never eat all of it. They have access to dry crumbles the whole time and water with 1/2 tsp./qt.ACV. The amount is about 1/2 tsp yogurt, about 1/4 tsp yolk, 1/2 tsp water and just enough crumbles to make it a nice moist consistency. I also have 4 chicks, in fact your avatar almost looks like a pic inside my brooder!! Very similar coloring!
