I know is forum is about chickens but I am genuinely at a loss and I need help if any of you lovely people can offer it lol.

I have 4 ducks that we initially thought was only 2 different breeds…now I’m pretty sure we have 4 different breeds. There is this one in particular that the colors have changed 4 times and at this point I don’t have a clue what it is.

We got her (I hope it’s a her) March 1st from a feed store. Sold as assorted so no rhyme or reason to gender or breed. She started off as the typical brown and black duckling that looked like she may be mallard.

Now I am not sure if she is mixed or just a completely different breed altogether. The breeds I have been researching as possible mix is mottled duck, American black duck, mallard. I will post pictures of her as a baby and of her now. Hopefully the angles are clear enough to see what I mean.

I'm definitely not a duck expert, but we've watched many a mallard grow up at our local ponds, and that looks to me like a normal juvenile male mallard. They change colors as the molt and grow up.

Honestly, I am torn because the colors are so different than what they have been and the different breeds this one COULD be could also determine the gender which I am still not sure of lol. On occasion I can see what MAY be a drake feather but then I am at a loss lol I guess I just have to wait at this point.

I agree either mallard or Rouen.
I think I may be leaning more toward Rouen, which I initially did not think of but a lot of the current coloring of the feathers on the face and body make me think it may actually be a Rouen.
We have 4 ducks and I don’t for sure know what any of the 4 ACTUAL breeds/genders are.
