Taking the water containers in and out each morning is becoming a hassel. Im looking into a nipple type waterer that can be fed by a hose. But is it safe for chickens to drink hose water??

I'm sure it is safe to give them hose water. If you're unsure of the quality, let it run for a while to flush it.

The water that comes from your garden hose is the same water that comes from the tap in your kitchen. I fill my chickens' water bucket from the hose all the time.

They sell those drinking water hoses for RVs- the white ones, if you are concerned. I personally use a regular water hose and fill my metal waterers with it. But I do run it awhile before filling the waterers in the summer- I don't like the idea of the water sitting in there baking in the hot sun, leaching the chemicals out. I don't waste the water- I water things in the garden with it first.

It might help to keep the hose in the shade somehow, as even the white food grade hoses say not to put hot water in them.

In the summer I use the garden hose to fill the chickens waterers. I purchased a hose that says "Water is Safe for Drinking". Also when I'm filling the waterers I run the water to get the standing water out of the hose.

The water is the same as we drink inside the house, but the hose contains lead which then leaches into the water inside the hose.
