Hi..i just purchased a cedar playhouse from Walmart...thinking to use it as a coop...but i am worried about the cedar wood being toxic to them....any ideas? thanks, Wendy

I've heard the cedar being hard on chicks, but i believe it has more to do with the bedding. The adult birds do not seem to have a people with it as long as they can get out and about. You'll have less bugs with cedar. Still, pine is better.

Sawn cedar is a fine material to use. The issue people have with certain cedars are the volatile compounds that are released from shavings. The difference is the surface area. A board taken off the coop and shreded into shavings now has many thousands of times more surface area than it would otherwise.

The 3 B's have a cedar wrap around deck around their coop and they are doing well
