My mama hen just hatched chicks and is still sitting on the nest trying to hatch the rest of the eggs ( some chickens layed eggs in there with her while she was broody) and I saw one move inside an egg while candling so I’m letting her stay on the nest. I’ve been bringing them water but don’t leave it in the nest bc I don’t want it to spill on them. Can they go all night without it? I know they can go 48-72 hours without it in the begging but they have food in the nest which they are eating and they are drinking the water when I bring it to them. Sorry if it kinda sounds like I’m rambling in this post btw.

If any one has an answer tonight that would be great. I’m getting up 1:00am to check on them and bring them water. Do I need to go anymore times than just the one?

The nest is raised above ground under the coop. I’ll post a pic of the happy family. And thanks for the quick response.

Just hatched this morning

I think they might be able to, but maybe not... my 5 week olds have gone without water overnight, but yours are a lot younger.

Adorable pic, btw!

We had to buil nest down there bc the chickens refused to quit making their own little nest down there. I wish she would have chosen a nest inside the coop.
