ok so i have 2 ducklings that are about 2 weeks old. (i have more ducks but they are in a different coop).
once i move them out of the brooder can they stay in the pigeon coop with my one pigeon? i feel like this is a great idea because 1) the pigeon gets some friends until we can find an adoptable pigeon (the one we wanted sadly is too sick to adopt) and 2) the small ducks get a coop where they don’t get picked on 3) the big ducks don’t have to share space/have less space and they don’t like the babies anyways
the pigeon coop is big enough that both ducklings and the pigeon will have enough room.

here are my questions... 1) will they fight? (female pigeon) and 2) how old do they need to be to be about the same size as a pigeon, they are khaki campbell :)

I'm not sure. They eat different things, and ducks are so messy. I think your pigeon will constantly be fighting illness. I wouldn't do it. I don't know if there are any diseases (other than ducks being unsanitary, making the coop floor damp) that the ducks would give the pigeons, or vice versa.

I hope this helps!

Sorry, but that is just about the worst idea I have read on this forum.

Ducks should never be kept with pigeons for any reason.

In the confines of a coop / pen, adult ducks will kill pigeons, and pigeons will attack and kill small baby ducks.

Ducks and pigeons need totally different care and diet.

Ducks produce massive amounts of wet sloppy poop, and with will contaminate the pigeons feathers and feed, feed, water, and will make you pigeons sick.

I have to add, why are you buying more animals when you don't have any housing or place to keep them properly? You will end up with lots of sick and dead birds and be wasting you money and time doing things like this.

Please research how to care for ducks / pigeons or whatever animals you want to keep BEFORE you buy them!

we are making another duck coop soon, we are getting the 4 pigeons as rescues (i don’t buy animals, too many already are stuck in shelters without homes. i’m only getting the pigeons because they have no place to go).

originally it was suppose to be the 2 ducklings and 1 pigeon sharing the cage for a month (with lots of extra room), then we found out about the other pigeons.

they’ll have seperate watererers. duck feed will be on ground and pigeon feed will be up high. bedding will be changed everyday and the pool will be outside the coop and so will the ducks (the ducks will only be in with the pigeons at night)

for the first week or two the ducklings will be inside a brooder inside the coop, so we can introduce them without fighting.

that's a rather bold statemant! Let's not try to hurt anyone here. Let's build each other up.

really? How do you know this? Pigeons are rarely aggressive to any animal other other than their own species. And how could a duck kill a pigeon, when a pigeon can fly and MOST domestic duck breeds cant. even if it were, say a flying mallard, the mallards aren't perching birds, so the pigeons would be safe on a parch. Unless, we are of course talking about a large shelf perch. I was referring to the average perch used for pigeons.

this is a part of researching, asking questions. They OP did a very good job of asking before they do it. :thumbsup @Duck mommy 2019 !

Yes, sorry, my statement was quite bold, but I was horrified by the idea and wanted to make sure the OP does not entertain this idea, because they have also posted in another thread about housing ducks and pigeons together.

I do know that ducks will injure and kill pigeons as I keep, breed and sell ducks, pigeons, chickens and many more birds and have done so for over 25 years.

It's common for male ducks to be aggressive. They even can kill their own chicks, and drown female ducks.

I know pigeons can fly, but they spend a large proportion of their time on the ground, and they naturally feed off the ground, bath and rest there often. In the confines of a coop or pen with ducks, the pigeons will not be able to stay on the ground long, and it will be easy for a drake to quickly grab a pigeon by the neck or wing and not let go, and so injuring the pigeon.

Young pigeons leave the nest before they can fly often. They will drop onto the floor and be unable to escape the ducks attacking or simply trampling over them.

As I said, ducks are messy... wet smelly messy. Pigeons housed with them will get their feathers covered in this mess and ingest it when they preen thier feathers to try to clean themselves... and likelyy get sick.

Disease are easily transmitted to the pigeons when the duck poop gets onto the pigeon feed or the pigeons drink out of contaminated water.

I have even had pigeons be aggressive to young duckling and chickens. I had a pigeon kill a baby chickens when it hopped up into one the pigeon nest boxes. They will grab hold of small birds such as saprrowns that get too close to them at feeding time.

thank you, and we did our research about ducks and pigeons. for 3 years before i ever got my own ducks i helped to rescued and cared for mallard ducklings. i have a lot of family with pigeons and they have all said our set up is perfect

Well my ducks and pigeon live very happily together. They absolutely love each other and when free ranging, are still always together. There has never been any aggression or illness, they wouldn't be without each other now. They eat, drink, sleep, do everything together!
