Can ducks remember things?

I was sitting on the couch holding Colonel wrapped up in a towel as he had just finished bathing in the bath tub with Duchess. I dried off Duchess first as she quacks too much when being dried and I didn't want her to make too much noise.

Anyway, I'm holding Colonel and petting his head to keep him calm. Our male dog Mooshu and his daughter Hazel Grace kept walking by and all he did was try to bite them. When our female dog Mika(Hazel's mother) walked by, he made a strange noise while stretching his bill towards her like he was warning her to stay away. He only did it towards her. Every time she walked by, he would make the noise and reach his bill towards her.

Does he remember that she was the one in July that ripped off his back feathers??

I think so. Mine remember certain noises that indicate a particular treat, (sawmill means grubs, chainsaw means meat bits, the bang of the greenhouse door means dustbath time). These noises still work even if they haven’t heard them for a year, which really surprised me.
I used to have summer and winter coops and the girls remember where they are and will go check it out from time to time.
I think birds are much smarter than we give them credit for.

chainsaw means meat bits
 I'm not sure if I want to know why a chainsaw equals meat bits. :[
My chickens remember that one of our ups guys gives them cheetos. he works whenever the regular guy is off, they see him infrequently. but they'll run down to him and not the other guy.
I don't see why ducks would be any different.

I know chickens can recognize people, they always avoid my dad and one of my chickens always attacks the kitten who teases her, but not the mama cat. My cockerals give alarms for all cats, and if it is one of ours they calm down after a minute, but if it is a stray they continue panicking. Yes, I believe they would recognize your dog.

I think duck are very good at remembering some things and not so great at remembering others. My ducks are really good at remembering scary/painful things and don't forgive easily... At least not without many many mealworms. It wouldn't surprise me at all that your duck remembers your dog pulled his feathers off.

My ducks actually run to my dog for protection when they see a raptor flying above, or hear a scary noise. But neighbor dogs terrify them.

My ducks also run from me, if they see me holding a syringe. They know I'm going to medicate them, even though it only happens about twice a year! They are typically very friendly and usually run to me and even hop onto my lap.

Sometimes they don't seem very intelligent... Like when they taste the poop for the 5th time to make sure it still isn't delicious food, and then spit it out in disgust. But when it comes to scary things they seem to learn their lessons much faster.
