I can get 12% Allstock from our local co-op for half the price of the 16% at the feed store, but the allstock has molasses in it. Will this hurt my goats?

I've heard it's a good idea to mix a little molasses into drinking water for goats that have just been transported to a new living area. This is a treat as well as a way to increase their energy. So I know they can have some, but I'm not sure how much is ok.

won't hurt them, might spoil them! They'll give you that look when you run out and the new stuff doesn't have it!!! you know, the look that says, "What? no sweet stuff?!?"

Too much could very well give them loose bowels of course, so like anytime you change feeds go easy with it.

Definetly will spoil them, they love it. There is small amount of molasses in my regular feed and I also give shredded beet pulp with molasses when I am trying to put weight on....hasn't hurt any of mine yet.
Some people will not use anything with the molasses in it.

we used to make homemade molasses...the goats loved the spent cane and molasses...I would never give much at all. Just a licking treat.

I use some beet pulp or sweet feed when they are close to kidding caues I don't want ketosis. When close to kidding those babies use up alot of the goats reserves. works well for me.

Sweet feed works for the does but I dont give it to my wethers or bucks at all as it can cause UC...I feed more oats and alfalfa pellets than sweet feed.
I give warm molasses water after my goats kid as it helps their energy level and it has iron and calcium in it. I keep straight molasses for mine.
