I have a sort of rescued drake that was kept with chickens for a year and a half. I brought him home yest. and let him settle in. Today I picked him up to really look him over and he seems okay, quite neglected but alright, except his nails are really long and kind of curved off to the side. any how, how short can I clip them and do the have a quick like a dog, will they bleed of I cut them to short?

p.s. guess I need to up date my sig line now!!

yes then can be clipped much like a dogs nails. If you are afraid of cutting, then you can use a dremel or the Pedipaws to file down. Congrats of the new duck. Post pics when you can! Good luck.

I use a pedi paws. you can either lie the duck on it's back along your lap, or you can hold them sitting on your lap with their leg extended behind them.. . which ever makes them squirm less. lol. It also helps to have another person to hold them and a towel to wrap them up in.

i have gone too far before, but i never got more then a tiny drop of blood. You can use corn starch if you have that, it works about the same.
