Can I use this thermometer/hygrometer in an incubator?

I have one very similar to this except mine is wireless. It is easy to read and the memory function is nice; you can see if there have been any temperature fluctuations. It seems to be fairly accurate, but it is a little slow to respond to changes. (I have another, more accurate thermometer that I compare it to.)

Or would I do better with this one?

This one will be hard to read out with real accuracy especially through the glass. Just imagine trying to tell whether it is reading 95 degress or 99 degrees. It might be okay as a backup, but I would want something easier to read.

Just my opinion.

. You just need to calibrate it when you get it. The temp part is dead on but the humidity part is off. You'll need to know how much so you can adjust your reading.

I went nuts with this issue. Problem is I bought a bunch - digital, metal, glass, you name it. All had different readings. the least accurate seemed to be the digital ones. Hydrometers can be as much as 30% difference. The ones "made in China"...they are a glass rod glued onto a metal backing - problem? Whomever glues them on isn't exact, they just slap them on and where ever the line is shows a temp but always a few degrees off. Another good test - go to Walmart - lay them all side by side - see how much variation you get (even between similar models). I bought the ones in the middle. I'm in search of something better for my 2nd hatch.

And by inaccurate - I had some digital ones from Walmart that would say it was 85 degrees and with 3 others (non digital) it would say 99. That's what I mean by some digital's being way off.

I have one similar to the first one you posted, got it at Wal-Mart for like $8.00. So far it is doing well, only thing it is battery operated so I am worried about moistier getting into the compartment and messing something up.

I use some I found at Lowes for $19.99.

It is a wireless, I place the outside unit in the incubator and the receiver on top of the TV, so someone is always there to notice any fluctuation.

I like my Acu-Rite because it has a 24 hour memory on the "incubator" side, also shows current humidity. I currently have 3 of them, they have a 3 channel selector.

I did have to calibrate the units. Preformed the salt and water calibration on the humidity side, and for the temp side, I borrowed an automotive laser gauge. Results: Temp shows 2 degrees low and the humidity shows 7 points low. However all three that I have are exactly the same. I just took a sharpie and beside the temp, wrote +2 and beside the humidity wrote +7.

I wish they had 5 channels because I could use some more of them.

Whatever you use just make to to calibrate it.

I'm using one of these right now. It is accurate to within a half a degree on temp, checked against a accurate dial thermometer. As for humidity, I have no way of knowing as it seems to read different depending on the room humidity until all the water drys up, then it goes lower than the room humidity. I'm using it in a Hova-Bator, so there is no humidity control, either the pan has water or it doesn't. If it doesn't humidity seems to go too low and I add water.

One note of warning with this thermometer, DO NOT LAY IT ON THE EGGS!!! The glue that holds the bulb in place becomes sticky and will stick to the eggs if it comes in contact with them.

I totally agree with babymakes6. That is the thermometer that I use, its very accurate and soooo easy to read.
