Last year we got 4 new hens from the local feed store, one being an Americana. I knew they were the mutt easter egger bird and not the true Americauna, but I took the gamble and got her with the hopes of having the blue green eggs that they are known for. She layed 2 eggs this color and then stopped laying once the cool winter weather started. Now that it is warming back up, i see her on the nest, but the eggs are light brown, sometimes with small white spots. Is this normal? the eggs are good sturdy eggs probably around the large size. Can't complain except for i was hoping to have the cool looking eggs.

She's not laying then, her eggs will always be the blue green. A chicken cannot change egg color like that, so drastically.

also, You're right: Americana (with the I in the middle) is an easter egger. Ameraucanna (with the 'AU' in the middle is the recognized breed.)

Here's the egg I found in the nest today after the americana was seen in the nest. It could be another hen like you said though. I saw her in the nest this morning and I found the egg this evening.

Agree it is not possible to switch from laying blue or green to laying brown eggs.
Either those aren't her eggs or the green ones weren't. One hen can't lay both.

If she did in fact lay blue then she has the ameraucana blue gene which they are slow to start laying. They aren't known to lay alot of eggs either like a production bird.

On the advertised names supply & feed stores use is a lie. Even if it says ameraucana or even arucana it's an EE. If you want a true breed go to a private breeder.

I love EE's though. I've bred all different hens under a true AM roo and the offspring are always pretty and a surprise to see how they turn out.

Yes, but it’s not likely it was her egg. I have chickens (roosters and hens) that like to just hang out in the nest after a hen lays an egg (not always but sometimes). But I’ve also had two Easter eggers who where separated and put with 0 other hens and 1 rooster. They both changed their egg color from green to blue.

I have frizzle ee and she lays green , she is with my nn rooster , there are the only ones on that pen and sometimes i collect her eggs and sometimes they are green and sometimes they are brown
