So I have like 12 chinese striped quail eggs

Its day 16.5
2 eggs pipped so far, Im observing and suddenly I see one of the chicks that pipped stopped moving stopped breathing
I assumed its probably the side of the chick so I cant see the movement, the other pipped egg I can see breathing movements

3 hours later that pipped egg thats not moving, silent and still, yet the 2nd pipped egg is squeaking and breathing, I assumed somthing bad has happened to the 1st pipped egg

SO I step in to make the 1st pipped egg a bit easier to hatch, so I take off half a square inch of eggshell and membrane off, immediately I realise that the poor chick is deceased, as its not responding like the 2nd egg

So I then remove the eggshell, I can see the yolk sack is not absorbed, somehow the chick pipped the egg and died, it did not suffocate because the membrane is very moist and the humidity in the incubator is 80%

For some reason the chick died, its gotta be out of exhaustion or something else, why would it develop at 95% and then die after a small pip?

So I do not want the 2nd pipped chick to die, nor do i want to remove the shell because the yolk is probably not absorbed?
So to make it easier on the chick I carefully crack the egg and remove half a square inch, looking at it the side of the chick is now exposed as I think i can see part of its feet

What do I do now, Plz see the pic

There are other eggs, non of them have piped and I think some of them roll time to time, I will leave those alone Im more concerned about the chick in the picture

I get quite a few of these each year. What humidity did you incubate at?

Can you see the beak? I would make a tiny opening around its beak.

@Nabiki (quail expert), thoughts?

ok so what ive done is this, it seems the chicks position is upside down, a bit like cooking turkey in an oven position, so what i did was I carefully cut towards of the left side of the pic position, so now i can see its beak, its under the wing, beak opened it a few times, Ive basically created a 40% opening, so the remaining 60% is still in the egg, iv e placed it back in the incubator, a little close the the slight gush of warm air from the incubator fan, as I dont want it to get cold, see pic

Those look like button quail eggs (also known as Chinese Painted or King quail) mixed with coturnix quail eggs.

After pip, it can take up to 24 hours to zip. Buttons quail like 60-70% at lockdown to hatch, while coturnix quail prefer 50-60%. The humidity is high for buttons and very high for coturnix. This can make it hard for them to hatch since it gets very moist inside the egg and the chick may not be able to get enough purchase to hatch.

I see some blood on the egg that you've assisted, so it looks like assistance came too soon. This one may not make it if it bled too much.

I would suggest lowering the humidity to about 60-65% if you can, and hopefully the rest will hatch more easily.
