Broody hen hatched some babies five and a half weeks ago and I'm really curious on the gender of this specific one can I get some guesses? Its got non silkie feathers so clearly it got its biological mamas feathering so im hoping that means it might be more obvious to someone else what gender it may be. I don't have great pics but I will post them anyway. I can get more tomorrow if anyone asks. And it won't break our hearts if it is a rooster we don't have any ordinances in town and had just gotten rid of our rooster because he was agressive towards our toddler. we are kind of hoping it is a roo due to all the silkies we have got from the same person and trying to avoid inbreeding Thanks!

Oh and I should add personality wise this one is the most adventurous. Granted it's other two siblings are full silkie so they cant fly at all. This one will fly up high to the roost with the other adult chickens and check them out. And this one and one of the other baby silkies will fight a bit. The other baby silkie I'm fairly certain is a female because she sticks close to mama and chirps a lot and doesn't fight like the other two.

What breed is the mother? If it had the silkie father it may be fibro sex link depending on moms breed. If it is not it is best to wait till a little older (6-8 weeks) but right now seems nothing screaming roo.

The mom is a dark brahma I thought I saw somewhere that the coloring for dark brahmas can be telling on the gender

Dark brahmas have white/yellow shanks (legs) right? If so, than if the chick has light shanks (legs) than it is a cockerel, and if it has grey or black shanks (legs) , than it is a pullet. An example from a golden sexlink x silkie pullet than cockerel:

I'm not exactly sure which chicken you are referring to but they all look like pullets (Female) except the last photo.
