I've used drops of ivermectin on my turkeys legs to kill scaley mites. Although, I've tried covering his head to seal his legs and feet, I could get the job done like that. He is huge!
I've waited til he's on his roost at night. I can easily reach his limbs, but before I can finish, he flies off the roost, giving me a kick on the way.
Is there a spray anyone has tried successfully to seal off the scaley mites?

I have found that Vaseline is the most effective for me - I massage it into the legs of the fowl - you can spray with WD40 it smells awful but I am told that it is effective! I will warn you however that the fowl do not like the "Hiss" nor the smell of the WD40.. you will also need to treat daily to eradicate the offending mites on their legs ! you should succeed in eights weeks or so to get rid of the horrible mites!

when one of my chickens had scaly mites, I used Bag Balm and completely covered the legs and feet. No more mites. you can use Vasaline (sp?) as well. both kill the mites by smothering them.

Edited to say..perhaps you can call for backup and have someone hold him while you tend to his feet.

It's hard to get people near this turk. He is big. I will continue with the vasaline and a few drops of the ivermectin. I've considered removing the higher roost, so he has no place to run to. Will do that in the morning. Maybe then, I can get one leg done, then wait for him to return to the lower roost and go back out for the other. Yea, wd40 wouldn't be one of my top choices. Thanks

Really, WD40?

What do you notice with it? Pam? I guess I worry about the vasaline or anything slippery, considering he goes on roosts. I just feel I need to keep at it.

See post #7. Use Nu-Stock if you dont want to use WD-40. Put the Nu-Stock on the roosts as well.

WD40, PAM cooking spray.

I had this problem with some of the hens, I used vegtable oil in a large bowl and dipped there feet (and leg to just before the feathers) which worked well but was very messy and obviously you would have to catch and hold the bird which at times was a chore in itself, I thought about using Pam spray but was unsure if it would work, have you tried the Pam spray?
