Can you explain this chicken genetically to me?

Not my picture, but I have a chick growing up with extremely similar patterning. My chick was born from an Aloha father and an Ayam/Polish cross mother, this person's chick was born from a Ayam hen and Polish roo cross. Is this just what barring looks like when presenting on a partially melanistic bird or is it something else? I'm still learning chicken genetics, there's a lot to it. I can post a picture of my chick when I'm home and able to.

That is the juvenile plumage of the chick and many chicks appear to have barring across their feathers even though they won't be barred when they grow up. Many chickens with the pattern mutation will grow up to have a different pattern.
However there is a pattern that has incomplete autosomal barring which is not caused by the barring gene, but rather, the pattern gene and other genes.
This coloration is found in Braekels and Deathlayers

Very interesting! Guess I'll have to see how my chick grows
