can you hatch reptiles in a chicken bator?

Funny story: Found a nest of turtle eggs that had been dug up by a raccoon. Found two that were untouched and figured eh they are probably to old anyways. Being me that likes to collect stuff i put them in a plastic worm container and put them in my dads truck and forgot about them.

Dad pulls out the worm box and opens and shows the eggs to a friend and what do ya know? Two baby snappin turtles!

So I think you could

As long as you can maintain the proper temps and humidity required you can hatch turtles.

There must be lot of information on Internet just go ahead and google about it

make sure is legal and you dont get in any issues

I done it for years. Many reptile sites actually sell the chicken type incubators. You usually need to partially bury the eggs in a sterile media like vermiculite that will hold moisture. Also reptiles usually incubate at a lower temp then chickens. Do your homework. I have been breeding chameleons and snakes since I was 14 but I have never breed turtles but there are tons of places to get more info. What kind of turtle?

i honestly have no clue. One of my friends just asked if he could borrow my bator cuz his turtles were makin' babies. I said when im done with it sure, but im goona check with my peeps to see if its even possible or if its just going to ruin my bator.

EEkkk !! J/k have really different specs. than chicken. For one thing they take longer to incubate. A lot of snakes take up to 60 days! Before I got into chickens, the original incubator ( it was a Little Giant from TSC) was bought for snake eggs. I sold it because we lost a 300 dollar egg. So it really isn't that easy. The heat conductor was too close to the eggs. (I also wasn't about to incubate chicken eggs in what I think is a not very steady inc.) Anyway, most reptiles have soft shells and although they do NOT require a turner, their humidity monitoring can be tricky. Also, you can't just lay them on the wire it take more work than that.

All in all I think if one is serious about inc. reptile eggs they are better of getting a reptile incubator. (They make them.) We (my DH and I) have a very sweet custom reptile incubator that we

.

For turtles.. well what type.. are we talking sliders, or succatas? Desert or jungle? Your looking at a 60 to 90 day incubation. Their sex are temp. dependent you are looking at
84-87 F for that time. (This is if we are talking about sliders) PM me for more details.

Turtles & tortoises..yes. Eggs are placed in vermiculite, DO NOT TURN, & must be misted. Temperature will determine sex. You can google the info.

Make sure you give the incubator a VERY thorough cleaning/disenfecting after hatching reptiles in it!
