Chickens carry diseases that can be fatal to quail. Many of these diseases show no symptoms in chickens, but are easily transferred to quail who have weaker immune systems. Click on the blue link below my post about why we shouldn't keep chickens and quail together, keep in mind that link shows pictures of a mild case. I have examples that are worse.

I missed the title of your thread, I'm sorry, you want to keep buttons with coturnix, not chickens. You can keep coturnix and chinese quail together in a large coop. You'll need to make sure that it is completely sealed as chinese quail are very tiny. Make sure you include lots of hiding places for both breeds as well. Here is a size comparison so you know what you'll have to proof for. Keep in mind chinese quails are very different to raise than japanese quail. They mate for life and should be kept in pairs. One or two pairs is all most aviaries will support space wise, if you are also running coturnix.

As far as keeping button quail in a chicken coop, you need to seal up every hole a hamster could fit through, buttons are only slightly larger in body than a small hamster.

Full grown chinese quail

Full grown japanese quail.
