Fertilized egg that never started developing?

It started developing. No development is a "clear" with no darkening. You've got an embryo. My guess, it looks simply late set, or late developing. It may still be viable. The dead ones typically are more black glob, my experience. But it could have passed in the last day are two for a failed hatch. Day 22 is not too late. Leave it for another day or so.

OK thank you. By "black glob" do you mean no visible air pocket?

Yes. Typically in a "dead" egg that has expired and turned to "mush," I just see a dark blob with no air pocket. If you gently shake the egg, you get a whoosh thunk, whoosh thunk, of gunk.

With a clear air pocket, that typically means a viable egg, in my experience...unless the chick recently died.

Give it another day or two to know the outcome.

ok thank you so much. I feel bad about disturbing the egg today due to my lack of patience & experience.

Looks like the embryo was dead by day 5? You can see it at the bottom of the pic of the broken-up egg (I think that's what it is)
