We recently acquired 3 intact 1.5 year old goats. We decided to band them.

We covered the area in blue coat and gave each goat 5cc of penicillin.

We have never banded goats before, I just want to know what to expect the Ball sack to do and how the goats will react to it.

it has been 24 hours. Their ball sacks are firm and cold. The goats are not as happy and active as normal. They do not seem too interested in food. I did read somewhere that this can be expected and they should get happier and eat soon after.

We've got same issue.
Got 2 one year olds and want to castrate one of them.
Also had a little we had born here this spring that we want to do.
We have two vets we use. One said they would band only for both.
Other said they would cut or band the little one but only band older one cause it would be too risky to cut one as old as a year old.
Haven't done either yet.

I have successfully banded older goats. I used the regular elastrator with no problems. I pulled the scrotum through the band and then worked the testicles through one at a time. It is important that you don't get a teat caught in the band and they should get a shot of tetanus antitoxin. Aspirin is effective on goats but you might ask the vet for some banamine. They should be over their misery in a day or two. If you are concerned about infection, give them some penicillin for about five days.

So to answer my question and for other looking for this information.

After 12-24 hours, the scrotum will get cold and hard.
It will continue over time to get smaller and fall off in about 30 days give or take a few.
goats maybe pissy for a couple days but should quickly get over it and be fine.
