Had chicks hatched March 20 in a coop. Guess I didn't count right when I left them out roaming the back yard around April 25and they were 5 weeks oldish. One didn't get into the coop and took up residence in a big bush/shrub in the corner of our lot. She survived by herself 2 weeks out there, through the torrential rains Huntsville Texas got, with 22+" of rain, and just eating grass/leaves/bugs on her own.
We couldn't retrieve her from the bush as it was too solidly grown up and she ran every time we were outside n tried to catch her. Nets didn't work either. So I just took to pouring out a cup of crumbles around the base of the shrub so she had something to eat. Today my grown son and grandson finally caught "Ghost" and she's back in the coop now.
