Causes of sour crop

My barred rock has sour crop again. She had it last summer and I caught it early, brought her inside and fasted her and then gave her Greek yogurt and Miconazole 2% cream. She got better quickly and went back outside.

Today I found her hiding and I picked her up and accidently put pressure on her crop and putrid liquid came out.

I'm treating her the same but I have 25 chickens and this one is the only one ever sick.

At least once a year she stops eating and turns yellow and I have to nurse her back to health.

Many times the reason a hen suffers from chronic crop issues is that she has another primary problem, such as salpingitis, reproductive infection, cancer, worms, or water belly. Has she ever had a pendulous crop that never completely empties? What does she eat and do you provide grit? How old is she and does she lay eggs? Here is the article that many people use to help treat crop problems:

Shes almost 3. She eats Purina layer feed. We have turkeys also so we provide fruit and veggies. Yes she's a great egg layer. The only crop issues I've noticed is when it's full of feels like a water balloon.

They free range on an acre.

I've never had a sick chicken besides her.

Does she have access to granite poultry lgrit in a separate container from feed? When other treatments fail, some use acidified copper sulfate 1/4 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days.

I don't provide grit. I was told if they free range they will eat grit in the form of dirt, tiny rocks.

Her poop today is full of small rocks. Is that messing her up?

I provide grit although mine free range. It's a "clean" rock so it's better for them. I have 2 girls with chronic crop issues. It's just the 2, all the rest are fine. They are like tiny humans as in the fact they are all different, so all the rest are healthy but she may have chronic issues. Just means you gotta do this every year, no big deal. Definitely add grit though. Hope your girl gets better soon!💗

mainly it’s Fructose
fructose is a natural occurring sugar found in mostly all fruits
in my journey of chicken and bird keeping
i understand this closely that Fructose plays a role building yeast in crop and they end up having sour crop lately

so limit treats and increase veggies like capsicum, moringa leaf
