We purchased a straight run Chantecler chick from Sandhill preservation. We ordered 2, but they sent one (and then an extra breed on our sub list as we indicated subs ok). We hope this is really a Chantecler as we got all breeds that are new to us, but this one does have a cushion comb and yellow legs and seems to fit the breed description. Doubt that we can tell gender yet particularly as both males and females are supposed to have very small and compact combs and wattles, but mostly hoping we are correct in our breed assessment.

Sorry for the late response.
It does look like a chantecler, although the legs look a little dark.

Sexing is really slow in this breed. I had one that I could have sworn was a pullet until he crowed at 6 months! Then his tail feathers started to grow.

I hope that you enjoy your chantecler regardless of its sex. I absolutely love mine!

Yellow legs are correct, but some will turn up with green instead. Sometimes the green will fade to yellow, although for breeding, it's a cull point.
Definitely could be a Chantie!
My current chicks are five and six weeks old, and at least a couple of them are looking like cockerels. Too soon to ID all of them though.
