3yo chocolate Orpington hen didn’t want to eat and was laying down unlike her usual self she did not run over for a treat like the others. I also found I had a container of scratch grains that got wet and was turning bad, and pretty sure she had ate some of it, so I brought her inside, and mixed 1 teaspoon activated charcoal with one cup warm water and then carefully gave her one ML of it one drop at a time put her in a crate., dark quiet room, with fresh water available. 8 hours later (early this morning) gave her another 1 ml, I filled her water with electrolytes solution. But I also noticed her crop was not empty so now I think maybe she didn’t need the charcoal? Maybe it’s impacted? The chickens did have access to some weeds the other day that were a bit stemmy. So I waited another hour and froze some coconut oil and gave her a couple of small chunks of it which she ate happily. Then I gently carefully massaged her crop and it got softer and smaller as I massaged it. Now she’s just hanging out in a crate with her electrolyte water.
I just wonder if it is bad that I gave her charcoal and then coconut oil right after?

I was out most of the day came back and she finally pooped. It was the only poop she did in 24 hours. Kind of weird looking, but I guess that’s from the charcoal?I took her back outside to be with her friends and sleep in the coop tonight. She hasn’t laid an egg for two days either so I’m wondering if she’s egg bound now I’ll probably give her a calcium D3 in the morning.

It looks like a lot of bile and there are yellow urates with the dark poop (probably from the charcoal.) The bile and yellow urates could be a sign of a liver problem. Does she have any enlargement of her lower belly under her vent area? Water belly, egg yolk peritonitis, cancer, and fatty liver disease are some possible reasons for yellow urates which are normally white.

Ugh her crop was full this morning it’s doughy feeling. I brought her back inside and felt all around her belly. She doesn’t feel big or swollen anywhere except for the crop. I gave her some more coconut oil chunks. I put apple cider vinegar in her water. She’s in a crate with no food., just the ACV water. I’ve massaged her crop two or three times so far this morning. Seems like each time it goes down a little bit more.
Her breath doesn’t smell bad- at least not yet. She still hasn’t laid an egg . and I usually give my chickens dewormer in March but I’m late. Could she possibly have worms in her intestines slowing down her digestion? Should I wait till her crop goes down again and give her a dewormer? Because her crop was so full I did not give her a calcium pill. Her behavior is fine. She’s standing in the crate looking at herself in the mirror. Here’s This mornings poop pic

You can get liquid calcium gluconate at farm stores, but she probably could take the calcium tablet orally and still get some results. Her urates are still a bit yellow with green bile liquid in her dropping. That could be an underlying reproductive problem. I might use electrolytes with vitamins in water or Poultry NutriDrench or Poultry Cell given orally 1 ml for each 3 pounds of weight. Stool softener 100 mg can also be used orally with a doughy or impacted crop. Worming with Valbazen or SafeGuard could be done just to make sure her crop is not blocked due to intestinal or crop/gizzard worms.

Ok I’m giving her valbazen and rescue 911 electrolytes water first. I have the liquid calcium gluconate. I use it for my ducks a lot.
Thank you so much for your help

Update on Stella. I gave her a human digestive enzymes capsule ,, and the next morning She pooped out a big chunk of the blockage… Gnarly twisted up stems and grass.
The next morning, her crop was still not empty, but it was only half of what it was the other mornings so I gave her another digestive enzyme capsule that evening and now this morning her crop was finally empty! Praise the Lord!
