I have a 4wk d'uccle chick who I just noticed has what looks kind of like a wound that has started to heal, but I didn't notice anything there until today.
it's just over his hip under his wing, about an inch long. It's possible I just haven't seen it until now, but I'm worried it could be a tumor or something similar because it's so big and there was no sign of injury before.
He hasn't been acting off at all, eating/drinking/playing, but it does seem to hurt him when I touch it.
I have him together with 2 other d'uccle chicks (same age), one of which is also a confirmed roo and the other is unclear. No signs of bullying.
I'm just wondering if it is just an injury and not something more serious, and what I need to do to treat it. Thanks!

Hi,

As long as that wound is covered and healing, there's not really anything you'd need to do for it. When you touched it, it didn't feel hot like if it was infected? It doesn't look infected at all. If it gets dry and you'd fear cracking, you could put a little vaseline on it.

Since this is your starting point with it, I would check it every few days to make sure it's healing/going away. If it starts getting larger, then that may be something else.

Can you get a full photo of the chick?
The injury is tender to the touch? Is it hot? It looks inflamed a bit, so I'd keep watch on it closely.
Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply, I thought I had notifications on but turns out I didn't
It hasn't felt hot or tender, and it seems to be healing properly on it's own and not bothering him. I'll keep watching it, but it looks like it's healing up just fine, thanks for the help!

Oh good!
I'm glad he's doing o.k. and healing up. Thank you for the update.
