Hello,
If anyone knows what these droppings and symptoms suggest (-see pictures), please let me know so I can do more research on those possibilities! -Thank you!
Here are the facts (about Snowbird) for quick reference:
Basic Facts:
• Breed: Swedish flower.
• Age: 3 years.
• Weight: ±1.75(?) kg (±3.8(?)lbs).
• No other birds sick (-5 others in flock).
• No signs of trauma; no signs of mites or other (visible) parasites; no obvious issues with the vent; no lesions; no noticeable swelling; no respiratory issues.
• Bed and coop conditions are standard (-relatively clean), and all the birds have several hours of monitored, free-range time each day.
Symptoms:
• Noticeably 'off': 3 days. (-Since Saturday, June 8th, 2024.)
• Her droppings I've seen are exclusively white diarrhea with some dark-green lumps, mostly small to medium-small; her daily access to grass and all kinds of other plants might explain the dark-green lumps present.
• Mildly lethargic (but definitely, slowly getting worse); she still pecks around for bugs, grass, and leaves.
• Half a softer eggshell discovered outside the coop on Saturday(?), likely hers based on its lighter color; -parts could be inside her still? (-Although, no signs of yolk under the vent, or egg-white liquids, shells, etc..)
• Had a sip or two(?) of rainwater tainted with a tiny bit of old, bad egg debris; this might have been on Thursday, Friday, or even on Saturday after she was already sick, but I can't remember; -perhaps some bad bacteria is now affecting her gut?
• Appetite declining quite linearly; ate only slightly less on Saturday, less yesterday, and even less today (Monday).
• Still drinking okay.
Moving Forward:
• An 'agricultural vet specialist' will visit us today.
• I am using a syringe to feed her water with home-grown chili powder in it (-apparently chickens can't taste the spice like we can); this was recommended as a natural anti-bacterial remedy by the vet over the phone.
• Currently giving all the birds ginger+garlic juice water.
• Been giving her a calcium-magnesium-zinc supplement daily since Saturday (-part of a pill with all ingredients confirmed as safe, crushed into powder then put on moist bread-) to increase/help muscle strength, mostly (-if it's somehow related to a trapped egg (-eggbound)).
Thank you for any leads/information!
-Joe
