** Ventilation is on the other side , and it’s quite big too :p
I saw many comments saying there is no ventilation, it’s totally my fault, I didn’t post the picture of the vent side. So I am adding some ventilation side photos , as well as the interior photos ( with hens) in the post. This way you can have a sense of how big this thing is. And yes, it’s not a luxuary hen house, it’s only meant to meet the very basic needs (if they only going back to sleep and lay eggs).

So I wanted to build a smaller coop and move my hens away from patio. After studied many different coop designs online, I designed and made my own. It’s extremely simple to build, easy to clean, cheap to build, saves pine shavings in the long run. If you have a large enough chicken run, this basic hen house might just be enough. Let me know what you think ! Would love to find the most efficient way to make chicken coops.

I get the idea, I think this would make an okay brooder box of you hinged the top and made it from HC on a frame instead of solid.

As the above post says as is there's no ventilation. It's also not tall enough for them to roost. I get making something affordable but I want my chickens mentally healthy. Part of having chickens, for me, is knowing they're treated better and have better lives than the ones that are production only. I want our girls to have what they need to be super comfortable.

No ventilation and not even big enough for a single hen. :(

For each adult, standard-sized hen you need:
  • 4 square feet in the coop (.37 square meters)
  • 10 square feet in the run (.93 square meters),
  • 1 linear foot of roost (.3 meters),
  • 1/4 of a nest box,
  • And 1 square foot (.09 square meters) of permanent, 24/7/365 ventilation, preferably located over the birds' heads when they're sitting on the roost.
AirFLOW is critical for birds' health. They have extremely delicate respiratory systems -- remember the canary in the coal mine thing?

Appreciate your passion.

Angle grinder is much better for cutting that hardware cloth - and dirt cheap - on par with a good set of sheers, but doesn't require the hand strength (or that you be right handed). Washers will help secure it better, as well.

OSB is best avoided in coops - too much moisture. Exposed OSB outside, even more so.

No roost?

I'll grant its a weather sheltered location for a bird to hide, but I'm not certain I agree its a "coop".

...and I'll stop there, so as not to pile on too much. Might go back later and look at your hinges. Its a common point of failure even in commercially built coops.

Thanks for the comments, the vent is large , it’s on the other side. I should add that side of view to my thumb nail. If your chicken is going to stay in the hen house the whole time then you definitely should make the hen house as large as possible. In my case, my chicken has a huge chicken run, they are only going back home to sleep and lay eggs. I had a huge chicken coop for 2 years, and I found during the night they all snuggle and sleep in one egg box anyway ( 4 hens by the time). Thank you for taking time to comment, I love to exchange ideas. :)

Ventilation is huge on the opposite side, sorry I didn’t post photos with all different angles. My chicken run is also huge, they are only going back to sleep.…. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

No, it’s not a coop, it’s a bedroom with large window. We don’t have moisture here in SoCal, ha
