I'm starting to stress over the size of the coop we purchased from The Chicken Coop Company. It has arrived however we have not assembled it yet. Our girls are 3 weeks old but I want to give them a nice home.

The nesting box dimensions are not listed, however I have a hard time 6 girls will fit in there comfortably. Did I mention I'm STRESSING OUT over this??

Please someone let me know your thoughts... We will be putting this inside a rather large dog run to give them extra run space as well.

Thoughts??

"Over six and a half feet long! 77 61/64 x 29 17/32 x 40 35/64 inches"

I'd say 3 full-sized birds max. I think it's called the silkie for a reason- must be intended for bantams. Not even enough roost space for 4 birds, by the looks of it.

Ack! Thanks for replying... it bugs me that these sites mislead you with numbers that are too high. For newbies like myself we are trusting these retailers to be marketing themselves correctly.

Anyways... thank you!

I am waiting for a satisfactory resolution to our current problem from the owner of The Chicken Coop Company. We ordered the Orpington Lodge a few weeks ago. The original description on the site for the coop included the following: "Inner door slides shut with easy metal pull bar." Well, it does not include a door to secure the chickens in the coop at night. When we contacted the company this week, we got a call back but there was "phone trouble" and the call kept being disconnected. Now the description of the coop on the site has changed and no longer mentions the inner door. (I have a copy of the original description we printed out to submit to the city for our coop license.)

We ordered a kit so we wouldn't have to construct one from scratch due to limited time and, frankly, construction ability.

In follow up emails, he has offered a door assembly and some other accessories. I am waiting for photos and more information on what is being offered before making a decision on what to do next.

Almost all chicken coop companies misrepresent the number of birds that will be 'happy' in the coop... A good practice is to cut the number in half or even more...

I'm having a hard time even imagining where the roost would be located in that coop, and no matter where it's located it's going to be just over 2 feet long, I would say two full sized chickens max and that really isn't even realistic for their well being...

I would not recommend ordering from The Chicken Coop Company.

I find their site to be suspicious at best, every coop has a perfect 5 star rating except one that has a 4 star rating because it was not available in custom colors... Yet, we have two unhappy customers pop up in this thread in a matter of minutes...

To me this sends up a huge red flag that the reviews are likely being manipulated and/or censored, especially when they clearly exaggerate capacity claims, that leaves a hard to get rid of bad taste for their integrity...

I hope I will be able to fit all five of my chickens in my coop from the chicken coop company!

So I looked at a fair amount of these coops online before making my decision to build my own. I thought they looked too small from the pictures (but it was tough to tell). I decided to build my own and have spent less or about the same and my coop is much larger. If you have the ability to do so I would recommend building one! It's more fun too.
