I have a golden campine hen who has been acting strange. Her crop is full of water and blood. When I held her blood and water poured out of her mouth. She is also acting weak and lethargic. I have never seen this before in any of my other chickens and am uncertain of what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Don

Sorry to have not seen this sooner. She has probably already died, but if she hasn't you need to put her down. She is not going to survive.

I am sorry.

Hi there,
I hope you can help me with some advice, you seem to have some experience in this area. Our remaining chicken died earlier this week. She had been coughing up blood (so much that it has spattered the inside walls of the henhouse) She did not have runny eyes or any obvious respiratory distress. I am not sure if it is ILT as she has been on her own for a couple of months although her run is open and could allow wild birds to get in. We would like some more hens but not if the area is contaminated with an infectious agent. Any ideas?
Chris.

A chicken doesnt necessarily have to have ALL the symptoms of ILT. Blood spattered on the walls inside the coop is a good indicator that she was shaking her head to dislodge exudate plugs from her windpipe.

Thanks Dawg,
I might just decomtaminate the henhouse and "rest" the area for a month or two before getting some new stock. Thanks for your feedback.
