Both eyes? Or just the left eye?

Coincidentally, I have a hen right now with one eye swollen shut. Here's how I am treating it.

First, I pried open the eye and flushed it generously with saline eye solution. (Liquid tears) Then I dabbed it dry and applied antibiotic eye drops. I also have anti-inflammatory drops and steroid drops left over from eye surgery I had a few years ago, and I used those too.

After a couple hours, her eye is now open, although she still closes it as if it's still painful. I have her in an infirmary crate so I can monitor her and apply more drops later.

If you have no antibiotic eye drops, you can use an antibiotic ointment.

It’s just the one eye. I started freaking out after reading about how this could be a disease. Because this is the 2nd chicken that had this problem.

Are you seeing any other symptoms, such as foam or drainage from the eye, pinkeye, or sneezing? Those can be symptoms of mycoplasma (MG.)

If you can go find some Tylan 50 injectable at your feed or farm store in the cattle medicine section, you could give her someantibiotics for possible MG. Since you had another one with similar symptoms, it may be MG. Give her 1/4 ml or cc a pound 3 times a day for 5 days. Do you know how much she weighs? Are you in the US? Also, get her to drink some water for you by holding a cup up to her beak. Mix up some watery chicken feed as well, and put some cooked egg into it.

Yes I’m in the US. How much does a bottle of tylan 50 cost. It’s a 12 weeks old chicken.

Also is it by injection? How long do I have?
