I am down to 7 middleaged hens in my suburban flock. My whole yard is fenced so I let them freerange a lot.
It's worked great except they love to come up onto the back deck and peek inside the house, pooping all over the deck. Beyond mechanical solutions such as gates at the stairs (the wife and kids are less amused by my flock) any thought on discouraging them from this area?
