I need some ideas on snail and slug Detterent that is also safe for my chickens. The population of slugs keeps growing and it is becoming a problem in the garden

If you use a slug/snail bait, Sluggo, or Escargo are supposed to be very safe. They're pellets made up of iron phosphate, supposedly no other "active" ingredients. Personally, I don't use the iron phosphate product if the girls have access to the same ground. It does break down pretty quickly. What gardening zone are you in? My girls are doing great with slug and snail control. Until the past few days when a hawk landed in my garden, I've had the girls working over the garden. They'd spend all day churning through the soil, and by the time they were done at the end of the day, their crops would be full. They actually play keep away with (small) slugs and snails. I'm too tight with my pennies to buy beer for the slugs. If you do a google search for "slug dough" you can save a lot of money. It's fermented with yeast, molasses, flour and corn meal. It smells like wine, and the slugs go ape over it. The only issue I had using it is that the raccoons liked the dough and marinated slugs, and I didn't want to attract them to my garden.

Just sprinkle DE around your plants, kills the slugs and is good for the chickens. You don't need to use food grade just get the DE for gardens.
