Hello yall
I'm posting because one of my Easter Eggers (Chicka) keeps having the feathers on her head displaced. The first time I saw it. I didnt think much, just assumed the other hens were establishing their pecking order. But then today I saw her scratching her head with her feet. I've seen her do it several times before but didnt think much of it. It has gotten to the point where it's not just 2 feathers but several now. I took a picture below (without me messing with it yet). I've never seen blood. And even though the feathers around the head looks damp it is actually very dry. I checked for mites or ticks all over and didn't see any at all. I'm not sure what else I'm missing.
I'm assuming something isn't right because the others don't do it.
Her behavior is completely normal other than the one thing and she is still laying everyday.

Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Chickens scratch their heads when they have an irritation. It can be itching or pain. It could be in her ear where the irritation is emitting from. I would inspect her ears with a strong light, looking for a foreign body such as a piece of grass or even a discharge.

If you don't see anything in her ears, try putting a drop of mineral oil into each ear. That sometimes curtails scratching the head or head shaking.

Have you felt her head for any swelling or small lump?

I did not think of the ears! That is such a great idea thank you. I have checked her head thoroughly and did not notice any abnormalities. But tomorrow morning I will check her ears. I dont have any mineral oil on hand but I can certainly get some.
