fairly new member, trying to fit in! Thanks for allowing me to share and ask for advice!
My journey to start a new flock has been an interesting one! We moved back to the country in November. We had to re home all our chickens when we had to move away!
I am excited to finally have chickens again. I couldn’t find chicks at the farm store, super frustrating. I was able to find some local breeders, got my original 8…3 weeks ago. 4 RIR and 4 speckled Sussex. Then a week later got 3 barred rocks. Another week later, got 5 black copper Marans from the same breeder and an Easter Egger. Then today picked up 2 blue laced red Wyandottes and 2 blue australorps. I believe that makes 21 chicks, I’ve got several roosters in the bunch unfortunately. We will raise those for meat or re home. I may keep one good rooster. I’m hoping for 12-13 hens.
I think I’m good with what I have now! Our coop is being built and hoping in the next 3 weeks I can get some chicks outside. It’s 8x8, garden shed type and will have a large run. Probably 8x15.
