There are many national hatcheries. A google search will result in many. There is usually a minimum greater than four for day old chicks with most of them I believe. You might get lucky and find one that will ship only four. They usually put in an extra should there be a death. The limitation of four where we live is the reason we purchase started pullets. TSC does not have starteds. We are not set up for baby chicks and with a limit of only four where we are as well, it made more sense to go with the pullets. They are way more expensive and shipping is exhorbitant, but this is our situation at the present.
We have had great success with Valley Hatchery. I'm not sure if they are an intermediary for the supplier or what as they are in OH and our birds came from MT; we received them in one day. They are healthy and in good shape, active and alert. Their customer service is awesome and having been in the customer service field for decades, I'm a difficult person to please and I don't make recommendations easily, but I would recommend them. Many hatcheries are selling out quickly this season, but I do know Valley has started pullets available in March and June. Their selection of breed choice is very limited so bear that in mind if you're looking for something specific, you might do better going with a local farmer or TSC. Good luck!

I have a Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock, only allowed the three as city by law. No problems establish their own pecking order, So all is good
