Hello all! I am new to the group and have a question. Has anyone been successful in adopting chickens to their HOA CC&R's in unincorporated San Diego? Currently, my HOA documents state that no more than 2 of the "usual" pets, i.e. dogs, cats are allowed per household. With the size of the backyards in my neighborhood, we can easily accommodate a small coop and a handful of chickens. I believe the thought process of continuing to deny them is a) belief that chickens will diminish property value b) the smells of the coops and chickens will be unpleasant to neighbors and prospective buyers.

Do you have any advice on how to convince the HOA to allow this? What are the laws for Fallbrook? 25ft from neighbors and 13ft from patio? No roosters?

Thank you all so much in advance!
Abby

Hi Abby, from what I've read here of other's experience, even if local law says poultry is ok, if the HOA disallows them, the HOA ruling tops the local law. I've never lived in a HOA community, so can only wish you good luck!
