Chicken run minimum height (for the chickens!) ?

I've searched and read a lot of the threads on here regarding run heights but how high do the chickens need the run to be to keep them happy (forget about human access etc. for now!)

i would say minumum of 3 feet ideal 4 feet and if you want walk in then 7 feet

I did 3.5 ft underneath. they have plenty of head room.

Thanks for the replies. Reason I'm asking is do they just need the headroom for walking about or would they prefer it higher so they can flap about, jump around and fly up a bit? Maybe they would also like to have perchs off the ground for hanging about on outside the coop???

If they were going to be in a run all day you would want more head room so they could do the things you mentioned, I let my free range all day so they aren't in there run much.

Depends on your needs. As long as they can stand up and jump, you should be fine. However, I like to be ale to walk into the run to clean it, so we are making mine as tall as the coop, and then some.

Yep, they will be in the run most of the day while I'm in work
