Hi everyone,

I have a 9 month old silkie hen that I noticed was quite lethargic yesterday. After feeling her crop, I realized it was bloated, so I've been treating her for sour crop with some crop massaging/coconut oil + 2x daily miconazole. I haven't noticed any improvement, but it's also only been a day, ha.

But this afternoon, while giving her some medicine, I noticed she kept slowly 'blinking,' but in a way that seemed much more serious—almost like she was temporarily passing out or falling asleep. With her lethargy, already low weight (she recently went broody for 2 weeks then gave up) crop issues, and now this eye thing, I'm really concerned. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Check her for lice and mites.

It will take more than a day to treat a Sour Crop. Don't massage the crop. Do give her the coconut oil and miconazole.
Provide her with water and a bit of wet feed.

What's her poop like?

She was broody or could she have not been feeling well for the 2weeks?

Have you dewormed her?
The eye, not sure about that. See if some of her feathers are bothering her. It may just be a reaction of her not feeling well. While you are looking her over, be sure to look in her ears to make sure they are clean.

Okay, I’ll add some wet food to the regime. She ate some of that this morning, albeit slowly, and downed the coconut oil and medicine mixed with egg yolk.

Checked her for lice and mites, nothing. Didn’t notice anything in her ears. I haven’t dewormed her either.

Her poop is super super liquidy. Kind of ‘shoots’ out of her.

She was definitely broody! She had a little clutch of eggs she was sitting on until I tried to move her to a new spot for her safety, which broke the broody spell.

Hopping on here.
I have a 1 yr old Blk Australorp hens that has sour crop. She has had it over a month. I give her miconazole, she is still eating and drinking normally. What else can I do? I don't want to take her to a Vet.
