I tried the old soak the chicken routine again, because I don't believe my 8 1/2 month barred rock has yet to lay an egg...Don't tell my husband because I used his hot tub!!

after about 20 minutes my arms were going to sleep from holding on the chicken so I let go!! GUESS WHAT!! CHICKENS FLOAT!!

She floated over here she floated over there she was very content with her little bath.

Um, why do you think soaking a chicken will start her laying? I think that's something you can try if you think your hen may be eggbound.

At this time of year, particularly, getting a chicken wet like that could cause her to get chilled. I hope you dry her off indoors really well before she has to go back into winter weather.

That is hilarious! She does look like a little rubber duckie

When I have to give my Belgium a bath because his foot feathers get gross I blow dry him... he just sits there are loves the heat... hmmm maybe I will have to fill the bathtub up to see if they want a bath and to see if they float... what if some breeds float and others dont! LOL

did you feel for an egg? you could always turn the hot tub on and turn it on to a warm not hot setting and see if that helps relax her muscles or something... I have no idea what to do about being egg bound but you never know! You could be a pioneer of chicken water therapy

Why do you think she's eggbound? What behavior have you noticed?

Being eggbound and being an internal layer, for example, are different. And of course there's always the possibility that this hen is a late bloomer who isn't laying right now because of the short days of winter. Come spring, she might just get going on her own.

That's cute!! There was another thread about swimming chickens around a while ago too, I think they're adorable.

Probably explains why they don't go running for shelter every time it starts to pour.

They don't mind one bit!
