I've noticed some poop in the run that looks like melted caramel and watched as it came out of one of my Buffs a few minutes ago. I have Ameraucanas and Buffs, 22 weeks old, eating layer feed, grit, scratch grains every three or four days, and occasional bread pieces. We just got our first egg yesterday, blue-green, so it was an Amer. egg. Put out oyster shell this afternoon. The chickens look and act healthy. Just wondering if I should be concerned about the poop. Thanks for any advice!

It's probably normal cecal poop. They do that about every 10th time they poop. Heat can cause that as well as other stressors. I wouldnt worry too much about it unless it's coming out of one particular chicken(s) most of the time. I'd stop the occasional bread pieces and instead provide them with plain yogurt and/or buttermilk with chopped boiled eggs mixed in their feed making a mash. You'll be providing them probiotics and extra protein.

What a completely disgusting, yet awesome resource!

Thanks!
