My chicks have always lived in a heated garage until they are big enough to be outside. Now that we have moved, however we dont have heat in the garage. The chicks have the brinsea heater to go under. Do you think they will be ok out there? (I'm in southeast Idaho)

Premier plates can handle a lower temperature.

I had mine in a partially heated garage that held a steady 55. They feathered out fast and transitioned to the outdoor coop with no ferrying back and forth.

I moved My oldest (28) 5 week old Chicks to the garage today .the brooder has cardboard on the floor and walls , several inches of shavings, a homemade (heatpad )Mom and 2 heat lamps (only have 1 on it's 57 outside ). They were doing their best to get got of the brooder in the House it was almost 4' plus it was covered but when I was feeding 2-3 always would get out . They will move to the big House with a completely fenced in lot that's covered .

I also have the Brinsea heater and seem to remember reading in the instructions that came with it that it was suggested to be used if temperatures were above 50. I am in Northern California and my 4-day old chicks are in a dog crate in the house for now. I plan to move them to the unheated coop with the heat plate as soon as they are over a week old and the overnight temperatures get a little warmer (they are 37-44 this week).

I used the “Mama heating pad” method last year - temps got down to the low 20’s, high 30’s, and the chicks were fine. There is a huge thread on the MHP (I think it’s called, “Mama heating pad in the brooder” or something like that.)Check it out. I will never go back to heat lamps again.

I saw the Momma Heatpad on here . I had a brand New Sealy Foot warmer That I picked up at a Yard sale last year for $5.00 :so now it's a Momma

I don't use a heat plate, I use the mama heat pad that works in any temp. I brood in my coop, with night time temps in the lower 30's. If your heat plate will work in the temps of your garage, they will be fine.

My Premier Heat plate kept my 3-day-old flock cozy and chipper in subzero temps that resulted in the *indoor* temperature of my coop to be SIX degrees F.

I was astounded at how much time they spent running about in those single digit temps. They’d pop under the plate for a minute then out they’d go.

I can’t speak to any other plate but I’d recommend the Premier plates wholeheartedly.
