I have 2 chicks about 3 weeks old. One buff Orp. One black astrolorp. Both managed to get stuck in the brooder lamp housing and burn one of their legs. I have them in the "hospital box" to keep them from the rest of the 10 chicks. I am applying Neosporin to the damaged legs once a day. I don't know if there is bone damage from their struggle, but clearly the tissue was burned. The incident happened about 4 days ago. They are still hobbling around. Eating - though lightly. and drinking. I have given them electrolyte water, but they seem to prefer the regular water. I am not sure how "agressive" to get in trying to manipulate their leg to see if it is surface damage only or not. So far I have been treating with just warmth/food/water/neosporin.

and yes. I replaced the brooder lamp with a different one with no way (I can see) to trap them.

Sorry to hear about your chicks ... If they're eating, drinking & pooling that's a good sign. I would keep an eye on their legs but don't mess with it but keep a close eye for infection. Neosporin (without the pain killer) good choice .
You may want to read the post on MHP by Blooie, I switched from heat lamp to using heating pad for chicks.
