Chicks sleeping like their dead????

Why do they sleep like this??? They all do it. They lay on their belly, stretch their neck out and lay their head down. Sneaking up on them to get pictures is not easy LOL
The RIR's are the calmest and will fall asleep in my DD's hand, when they do they will stretch their neck out and hang their head down over her fingers, I haven't been able to get a pic of that yet.

In this one the BSL's head is on the bedding and the RIR's is laying across the back on her.

Other then this they are very active, eat and drink well. So I'm not really worried. I just think it's weird.

Yeah, it's weird all right, but normal. Perhaps after being stuffed in an egg shell for weeks, it feels great to be able to stretch out and sleep.

Yep, super normal.They just collapse on the floor and pass out. Wait until you see them sunbathe the first time. You'll think one has had a seizure with the way it just falls over dramatically and won't get back up. Chickens are just dramatic.

They tend to do this when they are very small because naturally they would be squished under a big fluffy mother hen so have to stay low. As they grow bigger, naturally the hen doesn't sit down fully when she covers them and they end up standing up snuggled under her wings, so they tend to sleep less sprawled out as they get older.

Thanks I just don't remember my first chicks doing this. They did however scare me to death the first time one dust bathed. I thought it was dieing. At least I will know what's going on when theses ones start that lol.

I think it's precious. A couple of mine have figured out how to use another one as a pillow--adorable. I also have a couple that have dust bathed, they are just over 2 weeks. Half of them were roosting the day I brought them home. I could watch them for hours.
