Very irritating when you hatch chicks and they feather in, and are such a lovely colour, then they grow the next lot of feathers and are a slightly different colour. And THEN they do their 6 week molt and feather in a totally different colour again.
These "silver" japs I hatched are not silver at all.
I dont know what to even call them.
They started out such a nice silver and males go rich light brown and females are a lighter dull brown pharaoh type.
Theyve also thown lighter variations which im trying to suss out when they colour up completely too (have a female and male now). Theyve also thrown 2 rich brown babies who are 3 weeks. So theres a few genes in the mix.
Has anoyone else got this variety?
Or know what colour i should call the adults? The males and females are so different to each other.
Im wondering if there are multiple dilution at work, so I have split my birds up into breeding groups to try figure it out.
feathering in.
Light coloured chicks are the "silver" ones
Darker, more brown.
And they turn in to this:
Male
Female
Colour comparisons ^ 2 week old bubs from last hatch.
Lightest silver with one of the "silver", "silver" with pharaoh, and one of the rich brown with a pharaoh.
*pulls hair out*
3 of my breeding hens are pharaoh, they must all carry something and the father must have a bit of recessive everything!
