4 year old Brahma hen. Has been healthy, laying, social, eating, preening.
Chronic sneeze/cough since February. No other signs other than recent gasping.
I tried:
Tylan
Fenbendazole
Eprinex
Revolution
Doxycyline
Garlic
.
Had a veterinary visit with an exotic veterinarian in early March. Vet heard a significant arrhythmia. No other reasons she could find for cough but recommended a course of injectable oxytetracycline. But felt that maybe my hen had some sort of heart disease. Coughing resolved until early May, when coughing came back. Did another, longer course of oxytet, but no improvement.
Tried a few days of metoprolol because I had it.
Did another dose of fenbendazole.
Vet is currently researching heart meds to try since a consult at a bigger hospital is 3-4 weeks out.

My poor Brahma does this coughing all day and all night.
Anyone have any ideas?????
I’m willing to try meds because she is a pet.
** cannot figure out how to post a video**

Do chickens get asthma?

That is on our list. She DOES do this more while laying down or perched but does it in other positions too. Just unsure how to treat- since she is pretty comfortable other than what you see in the video.
I've had two animals with suspected congestive heart failure - a dog and a goat. Neither were treated for it (both were seen by a vet regularly) and both lived years after we noticed symptoms (both coughed a lot and the dog had seizures). They didn't seem to be in much distress until they eventually lost strength in their back legs and that's when we had them put down.
