White clover, crimson clover, or red clover? Was thinking of ordering some seed to plant but wasn't sure what kind was best. We already have a lot of wild clover but would like a designated patch for the animals and for jellies possibly. Just don't know which is best or if it matters? Or if they can be mixed? Also, how much does 1 pound cover? They seem to come in 1 pound or 5 pound sizes. Unless there is a bigger size I haven't found yet.

TIA

If memory serves different color of clovers flower at different times of year. SARE has a good read on clover. Check out all the different types of clover and other legumes. As to price, I can't remember... If memory serves, I plant red clover in the fall and white and hairy vetch in the spring and summer. I add alfalfa spring, summer and fall. But keep in mind that my "lawn" is a pasture mix as are my pastures. Most people don't want legumes in their lawn and consider them weeds. I also encourage dandelions as well as they're good for the birds and I love their greens.

Thanks! That's helpful! We let the dandelions grow too, although I've never eaten them, and we have clover everywhere, at least in the backyard. Does it like shade?
